What is measured vs modelled here

Measured: precession itself (50.29″/yr), Petrie's 1883 survey of the three pyramids, and Gantenbrink's 1992-93 shaft angles. Modelled: every sky this bench draws: a rigid rotation of the J2000 sphere about the ecliptic pole, 25,772-year period, fixed obliquity, linear proper motion. That reproduces Bauval's own published numbers to about a tenth of a degree. Reported: the claim (Bauval 1989, 1994; Hancock 1995) and the objections (Krupp 1997; Fairall 1999). Reading: whether any of it was designed. This instrument computes what the sky did; it does not identify intentions.

The sky machine on this bench

Stars are carried from their J2000 catalogue places by linear proper motion, then the whole sphere is rotated about the J2000 north ecliptic pole by 360° × (epoch − 2000)/25,772. Obliquity is held at 23.44°; nutation, planetary precession and the 41,000-year obliquity cycle are left out, which costs up to about a degree of altitude at the far ends of the dial and is why dates here carry a ±100-year honesty margin. Culmination altitude at Giza (latitude 29.98° N) is 90° − φ + δ. Anchor checks: Alnitak culminates at 45.1° in 2,500 BC against a 45.0° shaft, Sirius at 39.5° against 39.6°, Thuban stands 0.7° from the pole in 2,700 BC, and the Belt bottoms out at 11.3° around 10,500 BC where Bauval printed 11°08′.

Where this drawing takes liberties

The pyramids on the horizon are drawn hundreds of times oversized, moved toward the observer and packed slightly closer together than the survey spacing, or the plateau would be an invisible speck under the sky; their relative sizes keep the true ratio, and the survey geometry lives untouched in the Match view. Star sizes follow magnitude but are chosen for legibility; the Milky Way band is a procedural texture in the correct place rather than a photograph. The match view compares the Belt in a flat (gnomonic) projection against a flat survey plan, which is the same flattening every party to this dispute uses. Refraction (about half a degree at the horizon) is not applied; it matters to nothing here except the exact drama of the trough's low crossing.
