What is exact vs modelled here

Exact: the extinction of a gold sphere at every size (Mie theory on Johnson & Christy 1972, Drude beyond 1.94 µm), band-averaged over a Planck spectrum; mass per unit optical depth from it; the shield's mass as that times τ times the planet's area; the cube sides; the reservoir ratios from published values; the lift energy. Reported: every quotation and every date the book gives, the cadence, the mine locations. Measured: Pinatubo's mass, peak optical depth and decay. Modelled: Stokes settling with the slip correction and Brownian coagulation with the Fuchs kernel in a well-mixed slab; the layer's pressure, temperature, thickness and gas; Nibiru's size and gravity from INST-70; the veil's drawn thickness.

The model, in full

Gold's complex refractive index is interpolated from Johnson & Christy's table (0.19-1.94 µm) and continued into the infrared with the Drude fit of Ordal et al. (1985). Bohren & Huffman's Mie code gives Q_ext and Q_sca for each radius and wavelength; the sunshade band averages them over a 5,772 K Planck spectrum from 0.25 to 4 µm, the blanket band over the planet's own Planck spectrum from 2 to 200 µm. Mass per unit optical depth is 4ρr/3Q; the shield is that times τ times 4πR². The fall: terminal speed 2ρgr²C/9η with Sutherland's viscosity and the Cunningham factor; a slab of thickness Δz drains as exp(−vt/Δz); coagulation halves the number at Kn²/2 with the Fuchs interpolation between the continuum and free-molecular kernels, mass conserved so the survivors grow; the optical depth is re-evaluated at the grown radius each step. The schedule: flux = M/(Δz/v); stock per delivery = flux × 3,600 yr. All of it is pinned by scripts/gold-shield-tune.mjs.

Where this instrument takes liberties

The book gives no atmosphere for Nibiru, so the layer defaults to an Earth-like stratosphere (25 hPa, 220 K, air, one scale height thick) with the planet's gravity from INST-70's reading of 'three or four times the size of Earth'; every one of those is a dial. The slab is well mixed, which is kind: a real layer's top falls into its own bottom. The optical target is τ = 1 by default because the book names none; τ is a dial from 0.05 to 3, and the mass scales with it. Coagulation is monodisperse Smoluchowski, the simplest honest form. The blanket band uses a Drude gold that is a mirror in the infrared, which is what measured gold is. Pinatubo's numbers are round literature values (30 Mt, τ 0.15, a year). The 3D veil is drawn as a shell 0.4% of the radius thick so it can be seen; its transmittance is exact.
