17 November 1986, over Alaska. Japan Airlines captain Kenju Terauchi reported two smaller objects and a vast “mothership” he estimated at twice the size of an aircraft carrier, with intermittent radar corroboration. FAA division chief John Callahan says he preserved the radar and voice data, that CIA personnel took part in a briefing on the case, confiscated other copies and instructed that the meeting never happened. Terauchi was grounded after going public.
