On 9 December 1965 a fireball crossed six US states and southern Ontario before something came down in woods near Kecksburg, Pennsylvania. Local witnesses described an acorn-shaped object the size of a car, banded with quasi-hieroglyphic markings, and a military cordon and flatbed removal; NASA later attributed the event to a Soviet satellite re-entry, and records requests ended in litigation. Long paired in the lore with the Die Glocke story because of the shape; Closer Encounters makes the identification explicit, reading Kecksburg as a Bell returned through time.
