Belgian author and construction engineer, born in Alexandria in 1948, who proposed the Orion Correlation Theory in a 1989 paper and set it out for a general readership with Adrian Gilbert in The Orion Mystery (1994). He wrote Keeper of Genesis, published in the United States as The Message of the Sphinx, with Graham Hancock in 1996, and The Egypt Code in 2006. His correlation supplies Fingerprints of the Gods with its keystone date of 10,450 BC, the epoch at which he argues the Giza ground plan matches the sky, and it is the single point at which that book’s monumental chapters become a dated claim rather than a description.
The limit he set himself
In Origins of the Sphinx, written with Robert Schoch in 2017, he states the limit of his own half of the case in the sentence that matters most in it: the connection of the Great Sphinx to 10,500 BCE “or any other older date cannot be proved only by astronomy. So this is as far as the OCT can take the investigation.” That sentence is worth more to a reader than the chain it closes, because it names the burden and hands it to the geology.
