American ethnobotanist, lecturer and author, and the man who supplied the popular vocabulary for the DMT encounter: the self-transforming machine elves, entities he described as jewelled, chattering and insistently communicative, which he reported meeting repeatedly and treated as an ontological problem rather than a decoration.
What he was actually arguing
That the encounter is reproducible on demand, that it is therefore data rather than anecdote, and that a culture which cannot accommodate reproducible contact with apparent intelligences has a problem with its own map. That argument survives whatever one makes of him, and it is the version Rick Strassman’s clinical work later tested.
What has not survived
Timewave zero, the numerological system he built from the I Ching and attached to a terminal date in December 2012, made a specific dated prediction and it failed. Filing both halves in the same node is the point: he made a real argument and a false prediction, and the literature that quotes him tends to keep only one of them.
