Robert Bauval’s 1994 book with Adrian Gilbert, which carried the Orion Correlation Theory from a 1989 paper in Discussions in Egyptology to a general readership. It is the book through which the Giza-Orion argument entered popular circulation, and the one Graham Hancock drew on for the keystone date of Fingerprints of the Gods.
What it claims and what it does not
The correlation proper, that the three Giza pyramids reproduce the belt of Orion with Menkaure’s offset matching Mintaka’s, is the disputed half. The better-received half concerns the southern shafts of the Great Pyramid of Giza, which do point close to the belt and to Sirius for the epoch around 2500 BCE. In Origins of the Sphinx Bauval states the limit of the whole enterprise himself: the connection to 10,500 BCE “cannot be proved only by astronomy.”
