American spaceflight operations engineer, for two decades at NASA’s Mission Control on Space Shuttle rendezvous and orbital mechanics, and afterwards the most technically equipped sceptic working on the space-based end of the UFO record.
What he actually contributes
Not general debunking but specific orbital analysis. The objects in shuttle video, Glenn’s Fireflies, the STS-80 Object Sequence and the rest, behave in ways that look anomalous to anyone without a working model of what ice crystals, thruster firings and debris do in the camera’s near field, and Oberg supplies that model. He is also a serious historian of the Soviet space programme and has written on the Ghost Rockets and on Soviet-era sightings from the archives.
Why the node belongs
The vault carries Philip Klass and Donald Menzel and had no node for the sceptic whose objections are the hardest to answer on the orbital cases, which leaves that half of the argument represented only by its weakest practitioners. In Plain Sight names him among the debunkers it stages its own material against.
