Professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and a Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer. From 1990 he documented Experiencers, people reporting alien abduction or contact, treating their accounts as real anomalous experiences with transformative, consciousness-expanding effects rather than pathology. Books: Abduction (1994) and Passport to the Cosmos (1999). Harvard reviewed and ultimately affirmed his academic freedom. He died after being struck by a drunk driver in London in 2004.
