Aerospace engineer who spent his career at McDonnell Douglas on the manned spaceflight programmes, and one of the longest-serving figures in civilian UFO investigation, latterly as international director of MUFON.

He was the principal investigator of the Cash-Landrum Incident 1980 and assembled the medical documentation that makes it the best-documented injury case in the American record, publishing the results over two decades. And he led the cataloguing of technological indicators for AAWSAP, the long lists of anecdotal cases from 1948 onward that make up the indicator sections of the Lacatski volumes.
That combination, an engineer with a manned-spaceflight background running civilian field investigation for decades and then being brought inside a Pentagon contract, is why his name sits on both sides of the record.
