Founder of Bell Aircraft, the company whose X-1 first broke the sound barrier. Quoted by name in 1956 saying “we’re already working on nuclear fuels and equipment to cancel out gravity,” he is one of three named executives, with George S. Trimble and William P. Lear, whose on-the-record statements make the 1956 Antigravity Press Window documentary rather than anecdotal. Bell died in 1956, so unlike Trimble he was never available to be asked what he had meant.
