The short period in the mid 1950s when gravity control was discussed openly in the American and European aviation press by named industry figures, and the documentary starting point of The Hunt for Zero Point. Two articles carry it. Michael Gladych’s “The G-Engines Are Coming!”, dated only by a pencilled 1956 because the photocopy Nick Cook worked from had lost its masthead, quotes Lawrence D. Bell, George S. Trimble and William P. Lear. “Without Stress or Strain … or Weight,” bylined “Intel, Washington, D.C.”, ran on page 373 of the May 1956 Interavia Aerospace Review and named further firms including Sperry-Rand and General Electric.
The Electrogravitics Systems Report 1956, drafted the same February, lists most of the United States aircraft industry as engaged in the work. By 1960 the subject had left the trade press. Whether that reflects classification or the collapse of an unproductive line of research is the question the book cannot settle.
