Twenty-year-old pilot Frederick Valentich vanished over Bass Strait, Australia, in a Cessna 182 while describing to Melbourne air traffic control a large, fast, metallic object hovering above him. His last recorded words: “It is hovering and it’s not an aircraft.” No wreckage confirmed recovered; no explanation established. Two months before the Kaikoura Lights 1978 events.
