The code name given in Jakob Sporrenberg’s testimony to the substance said to have filled the two contra-rotating cylinders of Die Glocke: a violet, mercury-like liquid metal, stored in a lead-lined flask and handled with heavy precautions. No sample, analysis, procurement record or manufacturing trace has ever been produced, and the name appears in no wartime document that has surfaced. Later authors have proposed identifications ranging from a thorium or uranium compound to red mercury, none of them evidenced. It is best treated as a term from a single piece of second-hand testimony rather than as a described material.
