First Enoch, a composite Jewish apocalyptic work of the Second Temple period, preserved in full only in Ge’ez and canonical in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, with substantial Aramaic fragments recovered from Qumran that establish parts of it in the third and second centuries BCE.
The Book of the Watchers
Chapters one to thirty-six are the section this vault cares about. Two hundred Watchers descend on Mount Hermon under an oath, take human wives, and father the Nefilim; they teach metallurgy and weapons, cosmetics, sorcery, astrology and the cutting of roots, and the earth is corrupted by what they have taught rather than only by what they have fathered. The transgression is the transmission of knowledge, which is why the text sits at the head of every later suppressed-knowledge tradition.

Zecharia Sitchin reads the Genesis 6 passage the Watchers material expands as a record of visitors; Heather Lynn in The Anunnaki Connection equates the Watchers with the Apkallu and the Seven Sages through Amar Annus’s work, which is a real philological argument rather than an invented one; and the Demonic-Djinn Hypothesis and the Collins Elite material read the same chapters as the origin of the phenomenon. All three readings use the same text and reach incompatible conclusions from it, which is worth noticing.
