The granite room in the Great Pyramid of Giza, roofed by nine beams with five relieving chambers above it, forty-three beams in all, their top surfaces left rough and uneven. It holds a lidless granite coffer wider than the ascending passage that reaches it. The nineteenth-century record describes walls displaced outward by nearly an inch, cracked ceiling beams daubed freely with plaster as though by hand, a constant temperature, and salt encrustation in the Queen’s Chamber below. Christopher Dunn makes the room the transducer of the Giza Power Plant Theory and its damage the residue of a hydrogen explosion; the same anomalies are equally consistent with fire, earthquake and forty centuries of visitors. Any theory of the building owes them an account, which is the fair part of Dunn’s complaint.
