American astronomer and meteoritics specialist at the University of New Mexico, the leading investigator of the late-1940s Green Fireballs reports around the New Mexico nuclear installations. LaPaz personally tracked and analysed fireball sightings and repeatedly noted their departure from normal meteor behaviour.

At the 1949 Los Alamos Conference on Aerial Phenomena, documented in PURSUE Release 04 record DOE-UAP-D004, LaPaz is quoted stating that nothing like the fireballs had, to his knowledge, ever been observed in meteorite falls, against the conference’s leading meteor hypothesis.
