A surviving advanced precursor branch of humanity. One of Hal Puthoff’s 6 NHI categories. It is the same idea as the Lost Civilization Hypothesis of the alternative-archaeology literature, placed inside a taxonomy of non-human intelligence rather than a chronology of ruins. Where it keeps the intelligence terrestrial, the Ancient Astronaut Hypothesis does not, and Zecharia Sitchin’s Anunnaki are the best known version of that alternative.

Heather Lynn’s The Anunnaki Connection (2020) is the most fully worked out recent statement of this position applied to Mesopotamia: advanced humans displaced by catastrophe, arriving among Natufian hunter-gatherers around 8200 BCE and remembered as gods. It is notable for being argued by someone from inside the ancient astronaut field and against that field’s own conclusions.
