The Commission on CIA Activities Within the United States, chaired by Vice President Nelson Rockefeller, which reported on 6 June 1975. Its report was the first official acknowledgement of the MKUltra drug-testing programme, recorded the death of Frank Olson, and noted that all the programme’s records had been ordered destroyed in 1973. It ran ahead of the Church Committee, whose substantive MKUltra chapter appeared in April 1976, and of the joint Senate hearing of 3 August 1977 held after surviving finance records surfaced under a Freedom of Information request.
