Israeli performer, born 20 December 1946 in Tel Aviv, known publicly for metal bending and later for a long second career in business and television. He was tested at SRI by Hal Puthoff and Russell Targ across 1972 and 1973, and the results were published in Nature in October 1974 as an experiment in information transmission under conditions of sensory shielding, which remains one of the most argued-over papers in the field.
In The Invisible College the spoons are beside the point. What Jacques Vallee examines is SPECTRA, the intelligence that Andrija Puharich presents as speaking through Geller in Uri (1974), and specifically the fact that SPECTRA measures time in light-years and so does Geller. The case is used as a clean demonstration of the book’s test for channelled material: the messages contain nothing that was not already in the room, which is what makes them useful as instruments of belief and useless as information.
