Skulls with elongated braincases, produced by artificial cranial deformation: binding an infant’s head with boards or cloth while the sutures are still open. The practice is documented on every inhabited continent and across four millennia, from Paracas and the Maya to the Huns, and remained in use in parts of France into the twentieth century.
What the practice does and does not do
It changes shape, not volume. The bone is redirected as it grows and the internal capacity stays within the human range, which is the single fact that settles most of what is claimed about these skulls. Where extraordinary cranial volumes are reported, they have generally been measured by non-specialists on unrepresentative specimens, and the reported “no foramen magnum in the usual place” and “single parietal plate” claims describe normal variation and pathology respectively.
The Paracas claim
DNA results announced from Paracas material and promoted as showing non-human or unknown haplogroups have not been published under conditions that allow assessment: no controlled sampling, no contamination protocol and no peer review. The Anunnaki Connection handles this material better than most of its genre, reading the Onavas skulls in Mexico as Nahuatl head-binding to protect the infant’s tonalli and declining to make more of them.
