The second of the two videos that reached Jay Stratton with the twenty-two encounters logged by the USS Theodore Roosevelt air wing off Virginia, and one of the three clips the Navy stated in September 2019 show “unidentified aerial phenomena”. The Department of Defense formally released it on 27 April 2020.
The parallax dispute
AARO published a case resolution on 6 February 2025 assessing “with high confidence that the object did not move at anomalous speeds”, attributing the apparent speed to parallax and putting the object’s ground speed between 5 and 92 miles per hour depending on wind. Independent analysts had argued the same reading from the targeting pod’s own figures. Luis Elizondo records the argument in Imminent and rejects it: “I still don’t agree with this assessment, since the pilots who witnessed the object flying marveled at its speed” (p. 146). Both readings work from the numbers on the screen, and the site’s GoFast bench rebuilds the geometry from them.
