THE DOCUMENTS
FBI-UAP-D026, “FD-302, Dark Translucent Triangle, 2023”, and FBI-UAP-D030, “FD-302, Large Triangle with Red Lights, 2023”, two Federal Bureau of Investigation records from the U.S. Department of War’s PURSUE Release 05, published at war.gov/ufo, cleared 7 August 2026. Each is a three-page FD-302 (Rev. 5-8-10) witness interview form with FD-302a continuation sheets, released as a scan carrying an OCR text layer. Each is paired with one digital rendering: FBI-UAP-D027, “Digital Rendering, Dark Translucent Triangle, 2023”, a five-page PDF, and FBI-UAP-D031, “Digital Rendering, Large Triangle with Red Lights, 2023”, a JPG. The two interviews and the two renderings are the whole of the record here.
Why this one is worth your time
Two men, unconnected in anything the record shows, describe the same month in the same city. Both incidents are October 2023 at Colorado Springs, Colorado: one man on his back porch with his wife, the other at work in a car park.
Both describe an optical distortion wrapped around the object, mist and underwater ripples in one file, a mirage over a hot road in the other, and both describe it rolling hard onto one side while carrying straight on.
The Bureau took the statements two years apart, with two different sets of agents, and neither form mentions the other case. Both also end in black: D026 stops mid-sentence inside a bar, in the middle of the wife’s account, and page 3 of D030 is black top to bottom.
What the documents say
The forms. Both carry the FBI OFFICIAL RECORD stamp and the printed footer that the document contains neither recommendations nor conclusions of the FBI. Every redaction in both is a plain black bar; at 300 dpi there is no (b)(6), no (b)(7)(C), no exemption legend and no FOIA processing stamp. File numbers, field offices, interview locations and the day digit of every date are withheld. The city is not: unlike the two triangle files in Release 05 Briefing 9, both name Colorado Springs in cleartext.
D026, the interview. Conducted January [day withheld] 2026, about twenty-seven months after the sighting, by four interviewers: a Special Agent, a Task Force Officer, an Intelligence Analyst and a Supervisory Special Agent. The witness’s wife saw the object too and is not recorded as an interviewee. What he does for a living is a black block of roughly twenty lines on page 1, the largest single redaction in the Release 05 FBI files; all the form says of his competence is that he was very familiar with all USAF aircraft, including the latest drones.
D026, four seconds. On October [day withheld] 2023 at approximately 10:50 PM he and his wife were on their back porch, facing south-west, under a clear sky in which he did not remember many stars. Something flew over the house from behind them, out of the north-east and away to the south-west, and he caught the movement before the silhouette. It was low, possibly as low as 300 feet, roughly the size of a large SUV, and appeared almost see-through, with a haze or distortion around it: a perfect triangle, though his viewing angle stopped him saying isosceles or equilateral, and dark grey or silver, a colour that would have blended into the night sky. It travelled point forward, with a band of silverish blue light along the trailing flat back edge, which he hypothesised was the mode of propulsion. It held a straight path at a consistent elevation, covering a large distance very quickly. Just before he lost sight of it, the left side of the triangle banked up to an almost vertical orientation without changing path or elevation. It was completely silent, and gone in four seconds, too quick to get his phone out. It matched nothing he had encountered, and was only a triangle, without extra wings, fins or any bubble for an engine housing.
D026, how the file ends. Immediately afterwards he and his wife went inside to separate rooms, and the rest of that sentence is redacted, evidently to record independent accounts. His wife remembered seeing a dark seam running around the edge of the object; the form’s own spelling is “seem”. The last readable words on page 3 are “around the edge of the UAP,” and the document stops there.
D030, the interview. Conducted October [day withheld] 2025, about twenty-four months after the sighting, by a Supervisory Special Agent, a Special Agent and a Task Force Officer. The witness frequently watches military, commercial and civilian aircraft in the airspace around Colorado Springs. On October [day withheld] 2023, between 8 and 9:30 PM, he was at work; the phrase “was working” runs into a redaction and the OCR drops it. He walked over to a co-worker, named and then blacked out and not interviewed on this record, and looked up at the stars.
D030, the cloud. He noticed a very bright star, watched it for 5 to 10 seconds, then caught movement in his left peripheral vision: a dark-grey coloured cloud phasing into his sight, stationary, and looking very strange, as if pixelated or otherwise distorted. Watching it, he saw a constant, diffuse red light on the bottom front point of a solid black triangular object coming out of the cloud towards the south or south-east. The object widened behind the point as it exited, until he saw the entire equilateral triangle with a red light in each of the three corners.
D030, the flight. He put it as very large, possibly as large as the car park he stood in, its thickness the equivalent of 3 to 5 storeys. It moved south and slightly east at a helicopter’s steady speed, at 3,000 to 5,000 feet, then almost instantaneously accelerated to possibly Mach 1 or 2 and turned slightly, heading directly south or slightly south-west, with waves radiating from it. There was no noise, no visible propulsion and no smell. It passed almost directly overhead, then abruptly banked 90 degrees onto its left side while veering to the right, then banked back down to level flight, which he notes is the opposite of how a conventional aircraft banks. He lost sight of it to the south, and looking back he saw the dark-grey cloud had gone. He called his wife about 60 seconds later. Page 3 is seven black bars and no readable text.
The renderings. D027 is not a single illustration but a five-page PDF with no extractable text: five frames of the same back garden at night, seen from behind two seated silhouettes, a man and a woman, the object receding across the sequence from a close, faintly luminous semi-transparent plate to a narrow vertical sliver above the houses, matching the near-vertical bank. D031 is one image, 2400 by 1350 pixels: a car park at night, and above it a solid black triangle so foreshortened that it reads as a flattened dart, one intense red-orange light glowing at each corner, no engines, exhaust, windows or markings.
What the documents do not say
Neither file identifies anything: no assessment, no hypothesis, no attribution, no follow-up, which is what the printed footer says. Nor does any redaction carry a reason, so the record does not say on what authority anything was withheld, or by whom.
Neither witness is named or described. D026 blacks out roughly twenty lines where the man’s background would sit, so the file asserts his familiarity with the entire USAF inventory without saying what gave it to him. D030 says only that its witness watches aircraft and was at work.
The second people present are not on the record. In D026 the wife’s one surviving line is cut off by a redaction the document never leaves, and she is not recorded as an interviewee. In D030 the co-worker is named and then removed.
The phone call goes nowhere. D030 records it, the wife’s description of his voice, and that his carrier’s name was collected and then withheld, but there is no interview with the wife, no request for carrier records, no check of the call log, and nothing on whether the interference was looked into.
Nothing was photographed, D026 giving the reason and D030 recording no attempt, and neither incident is precisely dated. Nothing records what the Bureau did next.
The renderings are unattributed: no caption, credit or date, and nothing states who produced them or whether any witness reviewed them. They should not be read as witness sketches. D031 does not depict the cloud or the waves. D031 carries a 23 July 2026 timestamp, D027 a 21 July 2026 creation date and an internal Creator of Adobe Acrobat 23.6, and the FD-302 PDFs 5 August 2026.

Where the case connects
These two sit in the FBI’s second PURSUE block. Release 03 covered the first, FBI-UAP-D001 to D013, whose opening records are a Colorado Springs case from 2022, so the city now spans two tranches and three years with no document linking any of it. Release 05 Briefing 9 holds the other half of this tranche’s triangles, the 2002 Bagram sighting and the 2011 driveway, both with their locations withheld to “United States”. Release 05 Briefing 12 is the nearest procedural comparison: two witnesses to one 2026 event, interviewed separately into two documents that do not agree. Here the second person present produced no document.
Three things are true of both files, as facts about the record rather than an argument about it: both incidents are October 2023 at Colorado Springs; both witnesses describe an optical distortion field around the object; both objects bank hard onto one side while continuing on course. Neither FD-302 cross-references the other, and neither records any attempt to connect them.
