“Analysis of Flying Object Incidents in the United States”, U.S. Air Force Air Intelligence Division Study No. 203, existing in a 10 December 1948 draft and a 28 April 1949 revision, both published as PURSUE Release 04 records DOW-UAP-D093 and D094. Its assessment: “it appears that some object has been seen; however, the identification of that object cannot be readily accomplished.”
The study offered two “reasonable” origins, domestic or foreign technology, and advised that if foreign, the objects should be presumed related to Soviet activities and treated as a potential threat. Appendices include contemporary reports and “flying wing” planforms as candidate explanations for reported shapes. Contemporary with the Project Sign progress report.
