United States Air Force organisation at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, created in 1961 out of the Air Technical Intelligence Center, itself the successor to the intelligence arm of Air Materiel Command. Its job was to exploit foreign, chiefly Soviet, aerospace hardware and documents. Project Blue Book was administratively lodged inside it until the programme closed in 1969, and Project Blue Fly delivered recovered objects to it. It became the National Air Intelligence Center in 1992.
The phrase foreign technology carries most of the weight in Philip J. Corso’s account, which claims that Roswell material was written up as ordinary foreign hardware and processed through an Army desk of the same name so that it would attract no attention. The Air Force division is real; the Army desk Corso describes is documented in his service record; what passed across it is not.
