SS-Obergruppenfuhrer and engineer, head of the SS Building and Works Division, the body that designed and built the concentration camps. Kammler transferred from the Reich Air Ministry to the SS in 1941 and rose quickly: in August 1944 he was given responsibility for all aspects of V-2 operations, in January 1945 he was appointed head of all missile programmes, and on 6 February 1945 Hitler transferred responsibility for all air weapons, fighters, missiles and bombers, to him. By that date every German aerospace weapon of consequence ran through his office.

He disappeared after 17 April 1945 and his fate has never been established. The Hunt for Zero Point makes him the institutional answer to where the Reich’s exotic programmes actually sat, and leans toward his having reached the United States, while conceding in its own epilogue that no hard evidence supports it and that the National Archives hold no meaningful file on him.
